Monastery

The charming Medieval Monastery of Agia Napa stands in the middle of the town and was built in the form of a Medieval Castle around 1500 AD.

According to local tradition, in the cave that has now become a church, the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary was found by a hunter. The hunter’s dog was first to see the glowing icon and began barking, insistently calling over his master. A considerable number of believers started visiting the holy place of the cave, as soon as they heard about the discovery of the icon. In the 14th century, the remaining half of the cave was built into a church.

The ancient sycamore tree in front of the south gate is believed to be over 600 years old.

Harbour Area

Ayia Napa harbour area is a must visit part of the town and offers something to see and do both in the daytimes and at night. It has spectacular views out towards Cape Greco and over the Mediterranean sea.

Once a tiny fishing shelter, these days the traditional fishing boats rub shoulders with all sorts of modern tourist submarines and pirate ships. Much of the resort’s fresh fish is still landed here and if you’re up early enough you can purchase fresh fish straight off the boat.

The harbour is pretty and generally quite peaceful and is a great place to spend an hour or two just soaking up the atmosphere.
